You feel lonely and empty, and you don’t know where to turn for support. You have a spouse, but you rarely connect, and there is a wall between the two of you. You have friendships, but they lack the level of depth and intimacy that you desire. Your family of origin was chaotic and unsafe growing up, and you feel as an adult that your parents don’t know the real you. You wander through life feeling misunderstood and like you don’t belong anywhere. You long to be seen and known, but you believe that you’re too much for most people, so you keep your feelings to yourself.
You work hard at a job where you feel unappreciated, and you worry your value comes from
what you do rather than who you are. If things aren’t going well in your job, you lose your sense of purpose, and you feel like a failure. You over function in relationships, and you question why you can’t form more genuine connections, which creates resentment and shame. You feel guilty when you try to set boundaries so to keep the peace you give in to what others want. You became a people-pleasing perfectionist at a young age to win the approval of others, but this only leaves you feeling burnt out and depleted.
Your usual ways of coping, which include overeating, overworking, and drinking too much are
no longer working, and you cannot continue to abandon yourself. You don’t like who you’ve
become, and you’re tired of feeling depressed and hopeless. Your mind spins in anxiety, and you have no peace. You’re desperate to feel better, so you’re going to give therapy a try.
I’m Lisa, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who helps highly sensitive women like you who
are tired of feeling unseen and unknown learn to discover themselves. Like most of my clients, you’ll experience improved relationships and self-esteem, and you’ll understand yourself better. You can transform your life by discovering your authenticity and for this kind of transformation, therapy is usually long-term. We’ll meet weekly, so you have consistent support, and you can move out of feeling stuck. I’m compassionate, a great listener, and I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to access new levels of growth. I’m a Certified Brainspotting practitioner, and I’m informed in Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing. These are body-based modalities that I integrate into therapy, so you’ll have tools to help calm your anxiety. Therapy can provide hope, relief, and excitement as you connect to the support that you desire.
I also specialize in adoption, and I see adult adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents. I’m adopted, and I understand the complexities of being an adopted person. I completed the National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training for Mental Health Professionals through Center for Adoption Support and Education. I have contributed to the books The Adoptee Survival Guide (2015) and Adoption Therapy: Perspectives from clients and clinicians on processing and healing post-adoption issues (2014). I have also been a speaker at the Indiana Adoptee Network Conference (2018). I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2019.
