Hi, I’m Abby. I am a therapist, author, and educator, working with clients in Texas. Throughout my career I have used my education and experiences to help others develop themselves personally and professionally. I consider myself a lifetime learner who loves learning formally through research and training and informally from my interactions with people. I have lived and traveled all over the world, and love to experience new places and cultures. In addition to being a wife and mom, I am also a transracial adoptee and a birth mom, and have navigated the reunion journey for both identities.
My primary therapy specialties are adoption with focus on transracial adoptees, birth mothers, adolescents and young adults, racial identity development and racial trauma, and relationships. I have been trained in Brainspotting and narrative therapy and believe that the client is the expert in his/her own life. I consider myself diversity focused, trauma-based, and internal family systems (IFS) informed.
After years in education as a college professor, middle school teacher, and principal, my joy is working with adolescents and young adults, but I also enjoy couple’s work. My ideal client is reflective and purposeful. My clients are typically adolescents navigating anxiety and depression, young adults transitioning to careers and learning to “adult”, adoptees of all ages discovering their identities and processing trauma, birth moms processing post adoption, and couples seeking a more connected relationship. I support my clients through reflection, trauma processing, self-discovery, and identity development so that they can embrace mental clarity and feel free to live purposefully.

I completed my Master of Education in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling from Lamar University in 2022. I also hold a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from UNLV, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Goucher College, and a Bachelor of Science in African American History and Sociology from Towson University. As I pursue my license in Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) from the state of Texas, I am working under the supervision of Dr. Kimberly Vanburen, LMFT-S, LPC-S.
